“What was so enjoyable about traveling to Big Lakes County for me, was how the beautiful, widespread landscape allowed me to partake in just about any outdoor activity I wanted. I took an exhilarating quad ride around the area, which included a pit stop at Lesser Slave Lake only to find myself in awe of how tranquil it was.” Kristen Kurnik visitor from Mississauga, Ont.
Be prepared to be blown away by Big Lakes County. Visitors to Big Lakes visit for a weekend or stay for a season. There is plenty to see and do whether you seek adventure or pure relaxation anytime of the year.
Please contact us and we’ll gladly point you in the right direction. Our Big Lakes Visitor Experience Team can even help you plan your trip.
- In Warmer Weather:
- Visitors flock to the lakes for fishing, kayaking, camping, and boating recreation. Beyond the lakes, hikers can explore many historical fur trade trails and head to EC Bar Ranch for horseback riding, slip n’ slide fun, and one of Alberta’s best corn mazes. Our historical sites and museums offer a respectful look into Indigenous culture and pioneer lifestyle on the prairies.
- In Cooler Months:
- Visitors enjoy snowmobiling on the trails of the Swan Hills. Ice fishing among the Joussard ice village (of over 100 shacks!) is a bucket list experience. Hunting is a favourite sport among many here. And, this is Canada, hockey and curling are played daily. We even have a ten-pin bowling alley in the hamlet of Enilda.
